Welcome to the Marlow Fire Department Webpage

The M.V.F.D. serves an unincorporated area of 65 square miles

and nearly 10,000 residents between the Oliver Springs and Clinton city

limits, and north of the Oak Ridge city limits. The fire department was

started in 1979 when members of the local Raritan club co-signed a loan to

purchase a used truck. The fire department has now grown to boast 7

trucks in two stations, one on Oliver Springs Highway , and one on Dutch

Valley Road . The fire department has 51 members who volunteer time to

not only fight fires, but to repair and maintain equipment, care for the

buildings and grounds, present fire safety programs at the local schools,

and manage the department's funds. The membership, with yearly

elections for a chief and two assistant chiefs run the department.

Fundraising events include a pecan sale and bi-annual rummage sales by

the Ladies Auxiliary, as well as boot drives and community dinners. An

annual brochure is mailed to residents requesting contributions and

outlining the department's previous year's activities, income, and expenses.

The department also receives $20,000 a year from the county government.

On average, the department's budget averages $80,000. The firefighters at

Marlow put in over 1600 man-hours last year in formal training sessions.

much of the training is in-house, but many firefighters have gone to the

TN State Fire Academy in Murfreesboro for firefighting tactics and pump

operation classes. Classes are also taught at the regional training center in

Clinton , TN. Anyone is welcome to join the fire department, either to aid

as a firefighter or to help out in the many other important jobs.

The M.V.F.D is currently rated a protection level '5/10 ' on the

Insurance Services Office scale.
